Heart of Gold

Jesse we miss you so much. You left us far too soon and our hearts ache beyond expression. As I sit here sobbing and mourning your loss, I am reminded of the many happy memories that you left in my life. I think it is important to share some of them to highlight to your dad what a great son he raised and to remind Mya what a good-hearted dad she had. When we were little I remember being so excited to go to your house as we got to swim in your pool and play games in the grass. I remember walking to the park and playing hockey outside. Robert and I loved seeing you and Joel. One of my favorite memories of you as a little guy was when you were visiting my house while my friend Brooke was over and you ran up to her and kicked her in the leg....out of nowhere. It wasn't malicious....I think it was that sense of humor you had right from an earlier age. I've teased you several times about this "kicking incident" over the years and you always laughed in that heavy cackle of yours. As you got older I remember going to your lacrosse games. You were dominant out there and you made your dad and family proud. As you navigated through your teens, you became the 'go to' guy in the family for many things. Computer problem - ask Jesse. Plumbing help - Jesse. This was so true that I put you in charge of the sound system for my wedding. I think I also put you in charge of the greeting table...and operating the doors for the wedding party entrance. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I found you to be reliable....and you were ALWAYS willing to help out your family. You seemed to have a diverse skill set and you always had a hook up for everything. I guess this speaks to your extensive social network and the many people that are so proud to have called you a friend. Your generosity continued as you got older. I remember you getting me in the Annual Family Christmas Draw. The limit was something like $50 but you spent way beyond, getting me a full lululemon outfit. You didn't do this for the credit, it was just your generous way. In our 20's we had great times hitting the slopes in Whistler. Barb and I loved keeping up with you and Joel on the hill; you taught us how to "drop next" at the jump park....though you were far more daring than us in your tricks. And I loved how you showed excitement over the "air" that I 'felt' I got on those jumps. The years passed and it was so lovely seeing you become a dad and watching that fatherly side. Despite that tough exterior, you had so much love to give. Your love was also seen in your frequent visits to your Grandma and Grandpa. I was so touched when I recently heard that you were planning to get a tattoo of our recently passed Grandpa on your chest...over your heart. In many ways Jess you were a mystery. But your love for your familiy was undeniable and we will always remember you for this. You had a heart of gold.

I miss you so much. You were an awesome cousin.

Big love, Janine xoxoxoxoxo
